Create a Listing
The following is a step-by-step guide to listing an item for sale on Smashion. You must be registered as a seller first.
After signing in, click on the Sell an Item link located on the upper right corner of your screen. You will be taken to Step 1 of a multi-step listing process.
Step 1: General Description
Title: Attract shoppers to your item by creating a short title that is descriptive and interesting. The title is probably the second most important thing to describe your listing, after the pictures. A good title helps people find what they are looking for. Tip: Don't write in all caps. View more tips.
Condition: Indicate whether the item is new or not.
Description: Describe your item fully and include information on size, materials, brand, and any unique features it has. Spell out the local pickup areas for pickup only items. And convince users what a bargain it is by disclosing the price you paid for or its typical retail price. Tip: Sometimes, it helps to add a personal story for the item.
Price: Enter the unit price in U.S. Dollar (not including shipping).
Quantity: Enter the number of items in stock for the listing. The quantity will be marked down automatically by the number of items sold.
Shipping: You can offer different shipping options for U.S., Canada or other destinations. Or you can indicate the item is for local pickup only. Read more on Shipping.
Category: Choose the categories that best suit your item. As you click to select a category, its sub-categories, if any, will be displayed until you reach the last category.
Color/Pattern: Select the most prominent color or pattern that describes your item, and then optionally a secondary color. Select nothing if this is not applicable to your item.
Brand/Designer: Type the brand or designer of your item. As you type, we will suggest a list of brands and designers. Choose one from the list or enter your own.
Tags: Tags provide another way to describe and organize your items. Smashion supports the use of multiple words in a tag. Separate tags with commas when you enter them. Tip: If you were a buyer, what words would you use to find this item? View more tips.
Step 2: Images and Size
You can upload up to 5 images for each listing. The first image you upload will be the "cover" image and the main thumbnail used in browsing, navigation, and search results.
Your photos must be at least 200 pixels in width and at least 200 pixels in height. If an image is wider than 400 pixels, we will scale it down proportionally so that its width is 400 pixels. View more tips.
Your photos will be automatically resized and cropped from the center to create a square thumbnail.
Click on the word "disk" if your photo is on your computer or "Web" if your photo is hosted online, and an upload control will appear for you browse to an image on the disk or enter the URL of your online image.
Don't click on the Next button yet. You will notice the "Upload an image from disk or Web" text becomes "uploading ....". Wait until an image thumb appears — this means the image is uploaded successfully. Then you can click the upload link again to upload another image. Only after all the images are uploaded do you click the Next button.
Tip: Use your most clear, most compelling photo of the item. Good quality pictures are worth a thousand words. Think to yourself, if an item appears in an unclear or unappealing photo, would you be interested in buying it?
Item Size: The Item Size selection list varies with the category of your item. If you need to make further clarification, enter it in the Additional Info box. This can be helpful because different brands may have different measurements for the same, say, "Medium" size.
If we don't have a standard list of sizes for the item's category, you will see a single text box "Size Description" instead.
Step 3: Review and Save
This pages show what your listing actually looks like. Be sure to review all the information. You can use the Previous button to go back and edit if you need to.
When you are done, click the Save button.
And there you have it! You now have a Smashion listing.
