Thanks for the link! It does look like an informative site. A friend suggested I try Michelle Phan, especially since she's Asian and many of her looks would work well with me (I'm also Asian, with a yellow skin undertone).

Putting on make-up on myself isn't my strongest suit. However, I can easily put make-up on other people. Weird huh?

I decided to put my own make-up when I did bridesmaids duties for my friend. I don't have much make-up so I went to buy my own. The brands I got were: e.l.f. (they do have some awesome stuff, even if some of their products aren't as good. The mascaras dry up too quickly), Maybelline (for light foundation) and Human Heart Nature. I only wanted a light layer.

There are plenty of tutorials online. My favorite site is Makeup Geek.

Thank you for the lovely tips! It's been a while since I posted this thread, and I've come to learn a lot since, thanks to my friends and other lovely people who were kind enough to share their knowledge on make-up. I'm still far being vastly knowledgeable, but I know a bit more than before. I made some purchases of the basic make-up necessities, and while I still don't use them daily, try to play around with them when I can. :)

I Love mascara, really superb eyelash curlers and all things Lashes.

My new FAV is the Hot Lashes heated 2 pc lash curler. It has gotten great reviews at Amazon--Cult favorite Hot Lashes Makeup artist Kit..Absolute best..

They have a great sturdy 24K gold metal curler similiar to the Shu Uemura and Sheisdo one that comes with its own seperate pink small heater base that heats just the pad in the curler, this way my curl really lasts.

Makes my eyes POP and keeps my lashes super curly, they have a website Hotlashes and I also read about them on Facebook~...HTH~

Honestly, if you already dont wear makeup & are just looking for something to wear when you dress up, dont go spending tons of money on mineral or any other kind of makeup. Cheap makeup is especially not good for your skin because it has added chemicals that dry out your skin. One of my favorite quotes from a website I found is: Be creative and have fun experimenting, but remember, skin absorbs everything you put on it, so don't put anything on your skin you wouldn't be willing to put in your mouth, and you'll probably be safe playing with new beauty ideas.

My best advice for eye shadow is MICA. The easiest place to find it is online. And, yes, it is cheap, but its not a chemical. It is a pure mineral (that has no other additives) that is used in all cosmetics you can buy at the stores for color & alone, it can be used to give color to anything. Be it eye shadow, lip gloss, or a foundation. It can even be used to make your own nail polish (buy clear nail polish, add mica) or to add color to any other homemade product you want to make that you dont plan on ingesting.

Here are two sites that have some EASY, in your kitchen, Healthy For You recipes to add some "make-up" to your natural beauty. Don't go wasting your time, money, & health on products that you will barely use. Take pride in that you don't wear mainstream makeup, your skin & body will thank you for it.

I am a big fan of bare minerals powder, they have lots of shades and sometimes i mix two of theirs together to make my own!

They are a little pricey, but if your going to splurge on one item make it this!

AFAIK mineral make-up application is the same as regular make-up. The major difference is in the ingredients used to make these make-up.

Stargazer, is mineral makeup friendlier to newbies or is it pretty much the same with regular makeup? I've read all about the benefits of mineral makeup but if I don't know how to apply it then I don't see the point of buying it!

Try looking at mineral make-up. Not the ones that contain mineral oil, but ones that are made out of natural and organic ingredients. They're better for your skin and cause less allergies for most girls.

I'm not that good in putting make up but I just wanna share some helpful tips. First is that you have to think about the look that you have to achieve. Also, you have to be sure that the products you are using are safe enough for your skin since you aren't that used to applying them that often. Well, I'm so into watching tutorials over the internet and I should say that they're helpful though I wasn't able to make everything perfect. Practicing is the best way to learn.

I agree that the elf cosmetics line wasn't good. I think that's the reason why my aunt was able to get a lot. My cousins liked them though. The only one I liked was the concealer. I did get to nab some of her Clinique stuff so it's good. :D

I have a mineral press powder and blush. I forgot the brand though. I'll check it later :)

chun_hyang, next time you get your makeup done for a special occasion, you might want to pay attention to what the makeup artist is doing. That's how I learned. I also read magazines sometimes and there are great makeup video tutorials all over YouTube. Get to watchin'! :)

I completely agree with miss_pandy regarding ELF products. I was super excited to try them when they first came out a few years ago, but was horribly disappointed. Their powder was quite terrible (covers nothing) and it just didn't come out with a "natural" finish when I was done. That made me not want to try any of their other products.

I’m no makeup expert either, but one of the things I’ve picked up along the way is that you use foundation only on problem areas instead of your entire face. That way, your natural skin peeks through. And of course, you should take care of your skin. It’s so easy to put on make up when you take care of your skin. :)

I am admittedly a make-up virgin --- in the sense that I don't really use it myself. I've had people put make-up on me during events like weddings or debuts, but when it comes to me applying it myself, it's a no go. A friend recently gave me some e.l.f cosmetics, and I want to try them, I'm so used to not wearing them that I'm quite scared to even start.

Any suggestions for someone like me? I'd prefer a minimalist, barely there look for going out.
