Strictly speaking, purple is not the complementary color of green; green's complimentary color is red. Lol. But purple is usually recommended for brown probably because it's a combination of red and blue, and the blue part of purple complements brown. :)

I don't know why purple is always recommended for brown. Purple is actually the opposite of green on the color wheel, and looks awesome with green eyes (along with all jewel hues). Deep grey, navy blue, black...all awesome for brown. If we're talking about make-up, Urban Decay has an eyeshadow called goddess, which is like the perfect shade of deep blue that makes brown eyes look more amber. Blue eyes look good with salmon-pink shades.

Wow, that looks like a great idea! I have brown eyes and I’ve been using just blue makeup for the longest time whenever I want the attention to go to my eyes. Yay, now I’m looking forward to buying new makeup! :)

I have brown eyes as well, along with tan skin and brown hair. Because of that I recommend using brown colors in your wardrobe or makeup sparingly. Brown colored accessories are fine usually. I like to use blue toned makeup and blue colored clothes since they tend to make my eyes pop. However if you REALLY want your eyes to make a statement I recommend purple eye shadow mixed with a blue-green eye liner! I use this sometime when I go out and it really get attention! Another color that really works well with brown eyes is gold, since the shimmer really makes your eyes or skin look exotic.

So yeah, go for the gold! Haha

I think you have to match your clothes and makeup to your skin color and not your eyes. Whatever color rarely looks bad with any color of makeup or clothing you wear.

sometimes, a dress complements my eyes. but i don't make decisions about what i will wear based on my eye color... i decide based on my mood and what looks good on me overall. sometimes, i tweak my makeup so that my eyes stand out...

how about green eyes? is there anyone out there with green eyes? i wanna know how green-eyed people do their makeup. how does one choose colors when your hair is blonde and your eyes are green? i think it's just so hard to choose makeup based on your eye color!

I also have brown eyes so I don’t know what’s best for green or blue eyes. But for brown eyes, i try wearing blue clothes and makeup. They bring out the brown in my eyes. I also go for brown shades sometimes.
