I am with you - stripes yes, flowers, no! Stripes were really in fashion this past season but I am not seeing alot for spring - everything is color block. We are going to be overwhelmed, I fear, when we hit the streets come April! :)

What is your ideal spring color combination? My all-time favorite is blue and white, and I love black and white as well but the past few years I have been enamored of winter white with pale gold - the lighter colors hint at the warmth of summer to come but they are also extremely polished so work well for the office or an evening out. I would love the hear about your signature spring colors and what they signify for you!

I have been on the hunt for the perfect birthday dress for months. What can I say, you only turn 21 once. Finding the perfect birthday dress whether you are 19, 21, or 24 is quite important.

Over the weekend I went to Chicago and went to one of my favorite stores. I didn't get to look around much due to the fact I was with a big group of girls. I found two amazing dresses that I need help deciding from.

First dress:

It looks so adorable. I plan to wear it with some JC's and maybe some bracelets.

My second dress:

This dress is a little more plain but it would be nice to dress up with some stand out heels and cute jewelry.

Last but not least my third

I LOVE THIS DRESS! It is all about retro color blocking.

General Discussion - Generating Ideas For Smashion Business

Hello, All! I have been wondering if there is any way to help each other generate business to our Smashion stores. I saw tatmom's youtube videos (great job, tatmom!), and I am sure that is a great way to build your business. But I am also thinking maybe we could network for each other, find a way to get our friends to visit smashion stores. I would like to open this topic for discussion and see if we can come up with a plan to help each other out. Some ideas:

Traffic Exchange -

1) extending points(?) to fellow smashion sellers for every lead they generate (would need to find a way to document, I suppose). Points could add up to store credits for fellow sellers.

2) the above and/or generating a lead to another store for every lead they send your way - 1 for 1.

Referrals -

1) Provide contact information for willing friends (obviously must be approved by said friends) and extending points to seller for every sale generated through these contacts (I am thinking that one would send an email invitation to the friends, maybe with a discount attached or an offer for discounts for every lead they generate that results in a sale)

2) Sellers use their own discretion to generate leads to other stores then notify seller(s) of leads (email/name) so that if it results in a sale, points/credits would be issued to person who referred them.

Research - finding online sources for advertising and posting them here under a recognized title so participants would be able to spot the post at a glance.

Any other ideas? Any thoughts on the ones I have mentioned? Any system would require diligence, honesty and communication. Perhaps we could do a "sign up" for participants so that it is easy to track those to whom you might need to issue credits. Or it could be open to any seller as long as they are aware of the need to communicate. Friending sellers may be a really easy way to keep in touch; otherwise, we could use the forum. Please reply to let me know your thoughts and any suggestion you may have. We could make 2012 sales incredible!!

I don't know if this is a trend yet but I do love the leather paneled jeans and leggings for fall/winter. Love their edgy appeal and love how they look with thick, heavy boots!

The panels also somehow make legs and thighs look slimmer depending on how its cut!

For me it's definitely Shearling - I especially love when it's trimming leather jackets and boots - SUCH a great look!

Yeah I agree black is a little bit more difficult. I think if you can use a lamp or something is could help with the detail. I've been a little lazy with shooting (trying to do spring cleaning) but if someone were to have the lamp close to the item I think the detail would be able to come out a little more.

Hi gang. I'm new here and a few folks have asked me how I've gotten some of the photos of the clothes I have in my shop. Well... it's an easy trick I picked up and figured I'd pass the knowledge to you.

(note** I didn't have a chance to use the technique on the newer items but if you look at the earlier things I posted, you can see how it looks)

All you need is some natural light, a decent camera and white paper or cardboard.

Lay your item on the paper, shoot the photo by standing on a chair above (make sure the light is even), crop it to your liking, whiten the background if needed using something like photoshop (make sure you choose the correct color proofing so the clothes come out accurate) and wella! You can have a professional looking item for next to nothing. Hope it works for you!

There was this Fitflop craze where I live about a couple of years ago. I found them really heavy to walk in but they did have some really cute designs! But $40-$50 for a pair of what is essentially a flipflop is too high a price to pay for me. The sequins and the flowers weren't enough to have me sold on them.

I remember a few of my friends saying that they did feel the burn but I don't know if they caused any injuries like the Reebok/Skechers toning shoes.

I came across the news that Reebok has to pay $25 million to settle charges that it made unsabstantiated claims about its toning shoe line.

All I remember from the ads is that they promised that your muscles would work harder in order to compensate for the instability of their shoes.

I don't know, at this day and age, I think we all know better than to believe everything that's being advertised. I don't think people were fooled into thinking that they'd look like Kim Kardashian after using those shoes, weren't they? Oh wait, I think Kim Kardashian is for Skechers.

I tried them toning shoes but I hated the way they look so I never bought them. I think they might've worked for some people but I know lots of people reported being injured because of those same shoes.

Does anyone here use toning shoes or has used a pair? What did you think of it?

Inexpensive bodycon dresses are literally EVERYWHERE these days. I'm over seeing 5 people in my dress at a club, even though I love just grabbing a cheap dress at the mall. But whenever I actually feel like putting effort into it I've been turning to online shopping. I like Akira and I definitely think they excel at this specifically. They aren't super cheap but they'll get you noticed and you won't run into anyone who is showing you up. They posted this dress on facebook today and it is completely ridiculous...in a good way. But wear at your own risk and you might want to have some fashion tape on hand.

So what's everyone's costumes for halloween?

Steve Jobs? Lady Gaga in a meat dress? Slutty ____ (insert choice of profession here)?

I'm thinking of just buying a cute party dress and accessorizing it with halloween-y stuff. Not really up for spending hundreds of dollars on a costume that I'll only be wearing for one night! But if you're the type to really get into the spirit of Halloween, I'd like to know what your costume is! I don't really enjoy it myself but I do love seeing other people's costumes!

Models sent down the Louis Vuitton spring 2012 runway sported black, yellow and blue but instead of being on the clothes they were wearing, those colors were on their feet instead.

This is what their feet look like after a month of stuffing their feet into too-small shoes or trying not to break an ankle in too big shoes!

Has anyone tried shopping at Amiclubwear? They've got a mix of cheap "club-y" clothes with some cute finds. Sometimes they have the same stuff that places like Amazon have but they've got them listed at cheaper prices. The cheaper price points are drawing me in, but I have no idea if they are a legit shopping site?

I personally do most of my shopping on Amazon but I hope someone can recommend a new, different place that's got great stuff (at great prices)!

I was begining to get a little discouraged I have been a member for a constant 3 months now and have have listed about 20 items I do this as a hobby and some what second income I also promote this site on my you tube page I have not had much traffic to my page and the only way to check it is to go into your store and look at your own items and see how many viewers looked at the item for sale , that is kind of a bummer, This should be easier.....Amin, are you listening or reading???? you should be!!! So I finally made a sale after 3 months I was so excited.... Then my internet went off Due to high winds , O.M.G. are you kidding me ....No so I could not contact my buyer to let them know what was going on for almost a week then I went to my local library and got on line for free and contacted my buyer and let them know what was going on, they were so nice!!! I got there package out in the mail and so far the buyer was Happy. I have found shoping and selling here on smashion it is very hard to see who is active and who is not.....I hope they get that glich fixed, I have tryed purchasing items from 2 people so far who are no longer showing activity on there page but I did not notice that untill after I made a purchase. and that sucked!!! Now I watch to see if the person running the store has actually been there in recent time like 2 or 3 days is reasonable But 45 or 55 days no i will not even look at there store anymore Just a TIP for those newbies out there. well thanks for letting me share. Anyone here reads or follows The Sartorialist? If you do, this bit of info will interest you: that blog chronicling street fashion pulls in over $250,000 per year in advertisements from American Apparel and Net-A-Porter alone.

It certainly is less than what magazines are getting (or used to get) from advertisers but clearly, power is changing hands!

Do you believe in the pull of fashion blogs? Wonder what the future of fashion and blogs will be like.

Autumn is here and Halloween is fast approaching. I find it really interesting when children go treat or tricking. They still look adorable on those spooky costumes. Adults also dress up. I like dressing up like fairy or a princess. I'm so not into scary characters.

How about you? Are you into dressing up for this holiday? Or have you worn any costumes for Halloween when you were a child?

So the Burberry Prorsum shearling aviator line of jackets and boots has me completely drooling and wanting to sell each and every one of my wordly possessions in the hopes of one day owning one item. I love the platform stilettos that are trending now but can't wear them because they fall off my feet when I try to walk in them. They are simply too heavy. Does anyone else have this problem? I have worn high heels since I was 14 (I am 42 now), and I have always been comfortable in them - I can wear heels doing just about anything - so I know it isn't that. Does anyone have a suggestion for keeping them on your feet? I am passing up alot of great shoes for this simple reason.
