An Interview with Leslie of A Blonde Ambition
Hello, lovelies! My name is Leslie and I have a teensy little piece of real estate in blogland called A Blonde Ambition. I'm a newly engaged, 26 year old Southern belle who's always on the move. My vices are caffeine and goopy lip gloss and I firmly believe that the right pair of heels can change your life. I started my blog as a creative outlet for all my random thoughts and ideas; some fashion-related, some not. So join me, if you dare, as I learn the ropes of blogging, one perfectly highlighted post at a time.
What do you do when you're not blogging? What is your job?
Leslie: When I'm not blogging about the latest trends and style tips, I work full time as a web content manager for a financial institution based in Northwest Arkansas. Not a "sexy" job, but hey, it pays the bills, right? It's safe to say between the two, blogging is significantly more fun : )
How would you describe your personal style?
Leslie: I would describe my personal style as Betty Draper Meets Anthropologie. I love vintage, 50s inspired looks (pearls, skirts, a bouffant hair 'do, the perfect red pout), but also love putting my own modern spin on them, just to keep them from looking costume-y.
What would be the one fashion tip you would give to a friend?
Leslie: Dress for yourself. Often times, I think women feel compelled to "give in" to trends, simply because they're current. Jeggings and cropped tops look great on a 90 pound runway model, but for the majority of women, ladies with curves, they just won't work. Dress to suit your body. That's sexy.
Where are you from and what are your top three favorite places to shop in your city?
Leslie: I grew up in a one-stoplight town in central Arkansas, but Fayetteville, AR is my home now. The city has an incredibly cool, laid-back vibe and is the perfect place to try new styles. In Fayetteville, I love Maude Boutique, Something Urban and Riff Raff, all locally owned clothing stores.
What are you currently grooving to?
Leslie: Good Lord, my iPod is such a random mix. Right now, I'm loving Kanye West's "My Beautiful, Dark, Twisted Fantasy", such the perfect mix for the gym. And anything by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. When I'm in the mood for something more soulful, I love Bon Iver, Jeff Buckley and Ray LaMontagne.
What inspires you?
Leslie: Music, art, photography, billboards, and my surroundings at any given time. I love to travel, simply because I always come back reeling with inspiration for new looks. I love to emulate what the locals are wearing when I'm visiting a new place and try to replicate it when I return home.
Great fashion steal:
Leslie: My greatest fashion steal is a gorgeous vintage (faux) fur stole that I found at a vintage store in Fayetteville. I love to wear it with jeans, a fitted long sleeved tee and my black high-heeled combat boots.
What are 4 of your favorite brands?
Leslie: For jeans, you can't beat Citizens of Humanity, they last forever and make your rear look delicious. Free People is great for casual wear. Steve Madden does a fabulous shoe and they're super affordable. Rag & Bone also dominates a good portion of my closet.
In your opinion, every woman should own:
Leslie: A superb pair of dark jeans, over the knee riding boots in grey, black or brown, a killer pair of black heels and a pencil skirt that fits her like a glove. It also never hurts to have a cute, sexy little dress on hand, for impromptu parties and date nights.
A woman's most beautiful feature is her:
Leslie: Confidence. You can wear hottest dress in the world, but if you don't have the rocks to back it up, it's just a garment. Confidence and a great smile go a long way when it comes to pulling off an edgy look. Women who believe in themselves always look like they know something the rest of us don't.
