An Interview with Elle of Fast Food & Fast Fashion

I am Elle and I chronicle my everyday fashion victories and defeats at Fast Food & Fast Fashion. I am petite (only 5'2) but also stocky in build so finding clothes that flatter me is a full-time job. I struggle constantly between finding that delicate balance of having enough to satiate my craving for feminine frocks and dressing appropriately for my job.

This interview was published on Monday, February 07, 2011.

What do you do when you're not blogging? What is your job?

Elle: I work in the marketing and sales division of a lighting company. I am an avid runner in my spare time.

How did you come up with your blog name?

Elle: Truth be told...I think it just came to me when I was racking my brain for possible blog names. My brain has random thoughts that pass through and this must have been one of them.

What would be the one fashion tip you would give to a friend?

Elle: Dress for your shape and height and don't settle for ill-fitting clothes; I made that mistake when I first became interested in fashion, I would stuff my closet full of clothes fit for someone much taller than me. Those clothes mostly ended up in the donation bin and it was a very costly mistake.

What label(s)/store(s) do you favor?

Elle: I adore a pretty diverse group of designers and brands; the first few that come to mind are LaRok, D&G, Alice + Olivia and Marc by Marc Jacobs. I also like the occasional J. Crew, H&M and Ann Taylor.

What is the worst job you've ever had?

Elle: I was very fortunate in that I did not have to work for spending money in my youth so I avoided the obligatory worst job horror story. I have had my current job since graduating from college nearly 3 years ago.

Great fashion steal:

Elle: Where to begin...there are too many! I love a good bargain. Most recently a friend in Australia bought items from the Stella McCartney for Target collection for me for about 60-70% off. I also love Amazon Warehouse, I have gotten designer shoes there for 70-90% off retail.

What do you think it means to have a personal style?

Elle: Personal style isn't about the brands you wear or what you saw on the runway last month, it's about wearing what you feel most comfortable in and what makes you exude the most confidence.

Are there any style icons that inspire you? Who and how?

Elle: I really like the style of Blair and Serena on Gossip Girl - stylist Eric Daman is really fantastic and talented. I also draw inspiration from Audrey Hepburn, who is so effortlessly chic.

4 favorite fashion accessories:

Elle: A few months ago I would've said headbands but I recently fell in love with flower pins and colorful belts.

Where are you from and what are your top three favorite places to shop in your city?

Elle: I live in the Connecticut suburbs about an hour away from NYC. The mall near where I live is pretty typical of a town my size; my favorite mall stores would have to be H&M, Ann Taylor, and J. Crew. I do a lot of online shopping though and sometimes go to sample sales in the city.
