An Interview with Liz of 26 and Counting
Hi there, I’m Liz. By day I’m an Executive Assistant and by night I'm the gal behind 26 and Counting {okay, sometimes days too}. In this little corner of the blog world, my contribution focuses on inventive every-day-fashion for professionals who may find themselves feeling a little creatively constricted by their corporate environments.
What do you do when you're not blogging? What is your job?
Liz: I suppose you could say I dabble in a bit of this and that, but technically speaking I am an Executive Assistant for a company in the Midwest. Executive Assistant is really just a fancy title for travel coordinator, go-to Google girl and sometimes tech guru. I am also the occasional weather girl.
Whose style, past or present, influences your style?
Liz: I have always been enamored with the style of the 50s and 60s (hello, Joan Holloway & Betty Draper). Right now, my influences change day to day. Presently, I’d say my leanings are slightly more feminine. Of course other bloggers are a constant source of inspiration.
What label(s)/store(s) do you favor?
Liz: I love J Crew and Anthropologie when I have a bit of extra cash to spend. But for more reasonably priced things I like Target, the Limited and H&M.
Biggest style splurge and/or deal:
Liz: Splurging for me is anything over $100. So my everyday purse falls in that category (Longchamp). As for a deal, I scored my lovely Steve Madden black leather boots for $16 after lucking out on a sale, additional discount and gift card. Best deal of 2010 hands down.
How are you able to stay fashionable without spending a lot of $$? What are your tips and where do you shop?
Liz: I’m a bit of coupon junkie (my wallet is stuffed). But honestly I’m trying to curb back my spending in 2011. Participating in Kendi’s 30 for 30 challenge really helped me open my eyes to my own closet. So I’m enjoying what I have and being selective about future purchases.
What do you think is the hardest part about blogging?
Liz: I struggle a bit with a balance (work, social life, blog, etc). I love blogging and coupled with an obsessive personality and I can go a bit over board at times. So I try to limited myself to an hour or two a day with the weekends “off”.
What is the most rewarding part?
Liz: By far the friendships and community. I’ve “met” so many other fabulous and fashionable ladies through blogging. It’s a great source of inspiration and encouragement.
One trend you would like to never see again is:
Liz: Over dyed denim overalls. Blame my mother, not me.
Do you have a fool-proof home beauty remedies?
Liz: Other than tooth paste for pimples or drinking ginger-ale when I'm sick? Not really. But if you any some, I'm all ears.
Where are you from and what are your top three favorite places to shop in your city?
Liz: I’m from Kentucky (I work in Ohio – it’s close I promise). I love the Mustard Seed for vintage, Francesca’s Closet for jewelry, and of course the mall for everything in between.
What is your nerdiest hobby?
Liz: Well I was a history major in college, so nerdy pretty much describes everything about me. So maybe my WWII fascination. I could literally watch the Band of Brothers mini series over and over (and did I say over?) again.
