An Interview with Sarah of Smalltownchic
High school teacher by day and brand new momma by night (and day and all the time in between), I do my best to stay stylish on a budget. Lately that means a lot more online shopping, mostly at 3am. Smalltownchic is where I focus on my (and my baby's) style. Come check it out...
What do you do when you're not blogging? What is your job?
Sarah: I am a high school Spanish teacher but I have been playing stay at home mom for the past 10 weeks with my brand new baby boy
How would you describe your personal style?
Sarah: That is hard for me to say. I think my looks change from day to day (trendy, classy, retro) and I am wiling to wear anything that I think looks good. Working in a high school, I see a lot of the same trends over and over again, some that I like and some that I try and stay far, far away from.
Who or what has been your greatest fashion influence?
Sarah: I have been and am continually influenced by all different things. Lately, by other bloggers or my favorite show, Mad Men. If my entire closet could be from the wardrobe of that show, I would be one happy (and stylish) girl! I tend to rely on my wonderful and fashionable husband for his opinion.
Which label dominates your closet?
Sarah: I have a lot of things from Forever 21, H&M and more recently Mod Cloth. I try and spend on a budget and I find that I enjoy having a variety of things, which is harder to do if you are buying expensive name brands. I want to do more thrifting and incorporate more vintage pieces into my wardrobe.
What would be the one fashion tip you would give to a friend?
Sarah: Don't be afraid to try something new. It is easy to fall victim to just settling on one specific trend or look. Have fun with clothing and accessories. You can dress your age without sacrificing style. (That is all one piece of advice!)
Who are your favourite bloggers we don't know about?
Sarah: I always read Jen Loves Kev, Orchid Grey, Adored Austin, Sterling Style and now as a new momma, Dear Baby and Bleubird Vintage are my 2 new favorites. All of these ladies have amazing style and just seem to be down to earth. I feel like I could be friends with all of them!
Where are you from and what are your top three favorite places to shop in your city?
Sarah: I am from a small town about an hour outside of Boston. When I shop, I generally go to the mall or Target (such great finds there!) or discount stores like Marshalls or T.J. Maxx. Lately, I have entered the world of online shopping, although baby Max has made a few shopping trips with me.
Three things in your closet you cannot live without:
Sarah: I have a few old, wool blazers that I got from my grandmother when she passed away that I love to style with all sorts of things. I also have a large variety of moto jackets (all fake leather) that I frequently wear. And my oxford shoes. I can't live without them.
3 fun facts about you:
Sarah: I was salutatorian of my high school class, I am a vegetarian, I attended a university that has the same name as my maiden name (but spelled differently).
Great fashion steal:
Sarah: Honestly, my favorite item right now that I got discounted is my diaper bag! It is a Petunia Pickle Bottom Cake Bag and I found it on ebay (It wasn't a steal but it was a lot cheaper). I use it as my pocketbook and have gotten so many compliments on it.
