An Interview with Suze of Miss Vinyl Ahoy

Hi! My name is Suze, I'm a blogger from Metro Detroit. I write a blog about budget conscious style, with a DIY twist. I live within a budget and still manage to look fashionable and express myself. Visit me at Miss Vinyl Ahoy!

This interview was published on Monday, November 15, 2010.

What do you do when you're not blogging? What is your job?

Susan: I'm either at home with my husband or at work. I'm in charge of the website, social media, in-house graphic design and events at a non-profit in Detroit. I'm pretty much always online, even though I don't have mobile internet!

How did you come up with your blog name?

Susan: It went like this: I wasn't married yet (Miss), I collect records (Vinyl) and I'm obsessed with sailor styles (Ahoy). Kind of a weird story, but true!

How would you describe your personal style?

Susan: It's like when a volcano meets a tornado. No? Alright, fine. I'm retro, girlie, sorta punk, colorful, unpredictable and eclectic. And maybe a smidgen pattern obsessed. (Maybe)

Who or what has been your greatest fashion influence?

Susan: Other bloggers. I'm always seeing things put together in ways I wouldn't think of on my own. Seeing what other bloggers wear forces me out of my comfort zone, which is always a good thing. I'm not really a magazine reader, although I hear they're very inspirational.

Which label dominates your closet?

Susan: Honestly, either H&M or Old Navy. Old Navy's pants are the only ones that fit me and I own so much H&M, it's not even funny!

Where are you from and what are your top three favorite places to shop in your city?

Susan: I'm from Michigan, born and raised, just outside of Detroit. My favorite places to shop are the Salvation Army, H&M and Plato's Closet. I'm a big believer in shopping secondhand, because I love when my clothing has a history and a story to tell. I like to be able to tell that story.

Three things in your closet you cannot live without:

Susan: My polka dotted Tucker for Target top (I wear it all the time), brown leather pencil skirt and the green dress my mom wore when she married my dad.

Favorite kind of candy:

Susan: NERDS!!!!

3 fun facts about you:

Susan: 1. I once read my sister a Boxcar Children book using different accents/voices for each character (she picked them out as we went along- this was only a few months ago!) 2. I'm naturally blonde, although no one believes me! 3. I can belch louder than my husband (yes, that's a gross one, but true!)

What is the worst job you've ever had?

Susan: I worked at a movie theater for one year. I hated every minute of it. The only fun part was all the friends I made and all the popcorn I got to eat for free.

What are you wearing right now?

Susan: Oh crap, I'm in my PJs! Purple and white polka dot pants, grey socks and an orange "everything's bigger in Texas" t-shirt. Not really blog worthy.

Great fashion steal:

Susan: Last year I bought two vintage coats from the 60s and 70s for about $12 total. They're in great condition and I wear them all the time!
