An Interview with Kayley of Sidewalk Ready
Sidewalk Ready is an everyday fashion blog that is based in Grand Rapids, MI. Founder and primary writer, Kayley Heeringa, updates regularly with outfits that are realistic and affordable for most women. Along with an extensive look book, Kayley also features occasional beauty tutorials and home decorating posts.
What do you do when you're not blogging? What is your job?
Kayley: When I'm not blogging, I am usually working. If it's not at one of my three jobs, it's at home. We moved last year and the projects are never ending! I am also a hairstylist, a very part time employee at the Gap, and my husband and I own a photography business (Kai Heeringa Photography).
How would you describe your personal style?
Kayley: I like to mix it up from day to day, but as I've gotten older I've really grown into a classic style. I love feeling sophisticated and polished.
Where are you from and what are your top three favorite places to shop in your city?
Kayley: I am from Grand Rapids, MI. I typically shop at Woodland Mall because it has all of my favorite stores. I also like to visit the new Anthropologie and the adorable boutique next door, JB and Me. If I have time to drive a ways, I love to visit Holland. The downtown area is adorable and full of shops!
3 fun facts about you:
Kayley: I'm left handed. I almost always sing in the car, even at stop lights when people can see me. I love documentaries.
What inspires you?
Kayley: Music. If I have the right music playing for my mood, it can do wonders.
In your opinion, every woman should own:
Kayley: A fitted blazer! They go with practically everything.
A woman's most beautiful feature is her:
Kayley: Confidence. Absolutely.
Do you have a fool-proof home beauty remedies?
Kayley: I don't! I would say that my beauty regimen includes primarily store bought products. I don't really have any tricks. I feel like I should come up with one now, though!
Do you keep your older clothes or do you like to keep your closet small and organized?
Kayley: I do like to cycle out old clothes. I normally will do this when my closet starts getting too full, but I wouldn't say that I am a minimalist when it comes to my wardrobe by any means. I love to have plenty of options!
Do you have any comfort foods and what memories do you have associated with them?
Kayley: My #1 comfort food is probably my favorite home-made meal. My mom makes the most amazing spare ribs and sauerkraut. Even now that I'm married sometimes I'll beg my mom to make it for me. It tastes best when I eat it at her house!
What was the last good movie you saw?
Kayley: Pride & Prejudice. The Kiera Knightley version. It's my favorite. I watch it all the time!
People would be surprised to know that I...
Kayley: have never been to Canada. I'm the worst Michigander ever. It's right across the border!
