An Interview with Harriet of This Charming Style

Hello, my name is Harriet and I blog at This Charming Style. I'm a huge music lover, so going to gigs and shopping are my two favourite things to do! I'm currently saving up to move to London in July to become a Fashion Junior.

This interview was published on Monday, April 23, 2012.

What do you do when you're not blogging? What is your job?

Harriet: I'm currently at college, studying Fashion and Photography, but I finish in June this year. I have two part time jobs at the moment, but I will be working in London as a Fashion Junior from July, which I am extremely excited about!

How would you describe your personal style?

Harriet: It really depends on my mood; my style is very eclectic. I'm mostly inspired by 80's and 90's fashion, but I take influence from everywhere.

What would be the one fashion tip you would give to a friend?

Harriet: Don't be afraid. That is the key to being different and developing your own style.

Where are you from and what are your top three favorite places to shop in your city?

Harriet: I am from Southsea, which is in the South of England. My city doesn't have a lot of great places to shop, so I would say Albert Road (for Vintage), Cosham for charity shops, and North End for more Charity shops!

Do you have a favorite fashion era? What did you love about it?

Harriet: It's tough, but I would say that the 80's is my favourite era. There are so many different styles from that period, it's incredibly inspiring!

In your opinion, every woman should own:

Harriet: A decent pair of sunglasses that suit your face! A great pair of sunglasses can work wonders...

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Harriet: Urban Outfitters. Luckily there is no store in Southsea, otherwise I am pretty sure I would have bought the whole store by now!

Do you have any comfort foods and what memories do you have associated with them?

Harriet: This will sound terribly British, but my childhood comfort food was always Crumpets with Jam. If I was feeling down, my mum would make me them to cheer me up. It still works now!

People would be surprised to know that I...

Harriet: Haven't bought any new clothes for 3 months! Shocking, I know.

I can't live without...

Harriet: My creepers and my rucksack. They are the two things that I am completely obsessed with at the moment!

If I could escape to any time and place, I would go to...

Harriet: Manchester, 1983. (Possibly to watch The Smiths play at Hacienda...)

What's the oldest thing you're wearing today? Is there a story behind it?

Harriet: Today I am wearing a vintage top that I stole from my Mum's wardrobe. I can remember her wearing it on holiday when I was very small, but she's had it for years. There's definitely something comforting about wearing clothes that your Mum used to wear.
