An Interview with Kizzy of The Dainty Doll's House
Hiya petals! I'm Kizzy from The Dainty Doll's House. I'm a mother and artist who enjoys the beautiful and quirky things in life & tries to share them with those around her. I blog about anything from art, adventure - both in Scotland and beyond, personal style and any other obsessions I may have at the moment. I like people to come to my blog, have a laugh, forget their worries, learn something new, see how I live and hopefully leave happier than when they arrive, all are always welcomed - so come and have a visit!
What do you do when you're not blogging? What is your job?
Kizzy: I'm a mother & wife firstly, so blogging has to work around my girls & husband as they are most important. After them, I'm a photographer & artist. I studied Art History, so anything art based, I enjoy working on.
How did you come up with your blog name?
Kizzy: Well, my friend Lara gave me the nickname 'doll' years ago. When I started blogging, it was just 'The Doll's House', then I added 'Dainty' to it sometime after because of it's meaning and since then it's taken on a world of it's own, everyone calls me doll or dainty doll. It's quite precious really!
How would you describe your personal style?
Kizzy: Eclectic, vintage, whimsical and quirky. I like bold colours, prints, big accessories - especially rings, bags, bows. But I also like neutral colours. Depends on my mood and the weather. I like to feel like I'm having fun in what I wear & have some connection with what I'm wearing.
What inspires you?
Kizzy: Many things! Art, photography, music, family, friends, architecture. But, my biggest inspiration comes from my own mind, in thoughts & dreams. Which is why I must always carry paper & pen to write on as I think them. Sometimes I awake at three in the morning to jot stuff down.
Biggest style splurge and/or deal:
Kizzy: Hard to choose. I once bought a Nougat of London top in a thrift shop, some weeks later I saw the same top in the actual Nougat shop still in season for 75 pounds ($115.40) I paid 3 pounds for mine which is 4 dollars and 73 cents pretty much.
In your opinion, every woman should own:
Kizzy: Her confidence - wear what you like and own it! Life is too short not to. Beauty has to start from the very inside and work its way out! But, in clothing terms, good, well fitting lingerie. Why put something nice on if what's underneath is in a terrible state!?!
One trend you would like to never see again is:
Kizzy: Baggy trousers, people are even trying to sag skinny trousers, which defeats their purpose. I don't want to be sat outside and have the view ruined from the sight of someone's ghastly briefs.
If you could go on a road trip with any person (dead or alive), who would you choose and where would you go?
Kizzy: My father, he passed away when I was really little, so that would be wonderful. I'd bring him here to Scotland, so he can see the life I live now since moving from America. A close second would be with Salvador Dali to create some unusual masterpiece to shock the world with.
On the first day of hot weather, you'll find me:
Kizzy: Outside with the wind in my hair, sun on my face and icecream all down my clothes - kids, gotta love them ;) I love nature, so being outside makes my soul light up. Whether it's along the ocean shores or wandering in the forest, that's where I like being when the day is nice.
Three things that are always in my fridge:
Kizzy: My nail polish - keeps it from glooping, cherry yoghurt and some kind of French cheese.
What's your latest obsession?
Kizzy: Watching Downton Abbey! It's marvelous and I adore any kind of period drama, so I have that to add to my collection. Also Zooey Deschanel's show 'It Girl'. My husband says her character and I are quite alike, she's quite quirky & sweet. Fashion wise - dresses, polka dots, bows & stripes as always!
My favorite moment of the day:
Kizzy: Well they kind of go hand in hand, but when the sun sets or rises, there's this moment of silence and stillness in everything, as if for that moment time stops and does nothing but watch the sky change and evolve, it gives me an enormous feeling of renewal that I find peace and happiness in.
