An Interview with Cee of Coco and Vera

Hi, I'm Cee! I'm a Vancouver-based fashion blogger who dreams of living in Paris. I write primarily about what I'm wearing, and what inspires my outfits. The world is full of things to see and experience - I try to incorporate all the things that fascinate me, from travel to ballet to novels, into my greatest passion; fashion. My blog, Coco and Vera, is a place for me to collect what I love and share it, in the hope that it will inspire others, too.

This interview was published on Wednesday, February 22, 2012.

What do you do when you're not blogging? What is your job?

Cee: In my daily life, I work for a human resources consulting firm, managing a group benefits administration team. It isn't particularly glamourous, but it funds my shopping habit...!

Who or what has been your greatest fashion influence?

Cee: The world is full of stylish women, past and present, but the one I had most access to was my grandma, Nora. When I was a little girl, I used to watch her paint her toenails deep red - then she would paint mine. It was my first foray into fashion. I still treasure that memory.

What would be the one fashion tip you would give to a friend?

Cee: This cannot be said often enough: leggings are not pants. Yoga pants are not pants. If it has more than 2% elastane, it is not meant to be worn outside of your house.

What are the most prominent colors in your wardrobe?

Cee: I'm a monochromatic girl through and through - my closet is predominantly black, white and gray.

What inspires you?

Cee: So many things! My inspiration comes from somewhere new every day... But I'm consistently attracted to ballerina chic, Parisian style and the woman I would most love to trade wardrobes with - Olivia Palermo.

How are you able to stay fashionable without spending a lot of $$? What are your tips and where do you shop?

Cee: I always try to think of Alber Elbaz - the head designer at Lanvin - who suggests that women approach budget shopping with a designer mindset. Even at Zara, where I shop frequently, I look for quality, tailoring and timelessness.

What 5 items do you always have in your purse?

Cee: I never leave home without my Samsung Galaxy - I text message and tweet constantly. I also carry a notebook for jotting down inspiration, a tube of Fresh's Sugar Rose lip treatment, my evil eye keychain from Turkey for good luck, and my Kate Spade wallet.

Your most worn piece of jewelry:

Cee: I have a pair of champagne-coloured teardrop gemstone earrings from La Vie Parisienne by Catherine Popesco that I wear almost every day. They are basic enough to go with everything, but still make a statement.

On the first day of hot weather, you'll find me:

Cee: Sitting near the air conditioner in my denim cutoffs! I'm not a warm weather girl... In my ideal world, the temperature would always be ten degrees celcius - warm enough to go without a coat, but too cool to leave home without a sweater.

What's your favorite animal?

Cee: I fell in love with Winnie the Pooh when I was a little girl - who can resist the tubby little cubby? As a result, I've always had a special fondness for bears. From panda to polar, I love them all.

Where do you want to travel next?

Cee: There are so many places in the world I want to see, but I keep going back to Paris - I love the city so much, I can hardly bear to be away. But I've never been to Italy, so I think Milan or Rome will be next on my list of places to visit.

What's the oldest thing you're wearing today? Is there a story behind it?

Cee: The oldest thing I'm wearing today is a black Kensie cardigan - I bought it when I worked in retail during university. Like most students, I could barely afford healthy food... But clothes always took priority :)
