An Interview with Natalie of La Vagabond Dame

Natalie Liao is a 17-year-old and journalist-in-training. Born in San Francisco, this SF native is best known for her blog, La Vagabond Dame, which was featured earlier this year in the April 2011 issue of Seventeen Magazine. Natalie has been blogging and gathering inspiration for almost two years and is building a reputation for herself as an up-and-coming fashion stylist and writer.

This interview was published on Monday, December 26, 2011.

What do you do when you're not blogging? What is your job?

Natalie: When not blogging, I attend school full-time as a high school senior and work as a fashion consultant/stylist/blogger for 2b Bebe.

How did you come up with your blog name?

Natalie: Like how a vagabond does not have a permanent home, I wanted to use that analogy on my evolving and eclectic style, with a French twist.

What would be the one fashion tip you would give to a friend?

Natalie: Only wear what you feel comfortable in and be your own muse and inspiration.

3 fun facts about you:

Natalie: I love skiing, collecting pretty stationary, and I am the Editor in Chief and founder of ACME Magazine, a bi-monthly magazine focused on emerging artists and photographers from around the world.

What do you think it means to have a personal style?

Natalie: To have personal style means the demeanor and confidence that you carry and express. Of course, clothing is obviously the major factor, but it's also about the character that you portray yourself in and your attitude while wearing the clothes.

In your opinion, every woman should own:

Natalie: Every woman should own a good sturdy pair of platform shoes and a tube of red lipstick. Great shoes will take you to great places and everyone loves a bright smile.

Three things that are always in my fridge:

Natalie: Kern's Nectar Juice, parfaits, and my mother's cooking.

What's your latest obsession?

Natalie: Lately, I have been obsessed over re-reading all of Nicholas Sparks' books. Who doesn't love a little bit of winter romance?

My favorite color combo is...

Natalie: Recently, I've been loving creamy light tones, but now I'm lusting for more earthy and rusty hues.

I can't live without...

Natalie: Realistically, I can't live without food and shelter. Materialistically, my phone, planner and platforms.

I always smile at...

Natalie: Small fluffy animals! I absolutely adore puppies, kitties and bunnies.

My friends would describe me as...

Natalie: My friends often tell me that I'm brutally ambitious and honest.
