An Interview with Jackie of The Hourglass

Hello! I'm Jackie, and I'm a Vintage lover who finds magic in treasures from the past for their unique story, craftsmanship and piece of history they hold.  The Hourglass is a blog dedicated to documenting my life through fashion moments that I want to share with you. Pulling together inspiration from the past with current trends is the perfect fashion cocktail in my opinion.  So pull up a chair and enjoy traveling through some moments in time with me!

This interview was published on Friday, December 09, 2011.

How would you describe your personal style?

Jacqueline: Vintage, whimsical and spunky would be how I describe my style. I absolutely adore Vintage treasures from the past and love incorporating some magical or whimsical twist into my outfits. I would say spunky for all the bright colors, bold patterns and fun prints I like to wear.

Who or what has been your greatest fashion influence?

Jacqueline: The past has been my greatest fashion influence. Fashion is cyclical and tends to repeat itself, so I look to the past for inspiration for the future. Fashion history is incredibly fascinating to me and has become an important hobby of mine to become educated on -that is why I love Vintage so much!

What is your nerdiest hobby?

Jacqueline: Knitting. Not that it is nerdy at all, but I see how people perceive it that way.

What is your fantasy splurge?

Jacqueline: Anything from an Alexander McQueen collection. His work IS art, with fashion as his medium. He has an ability to make pieces that are so out of this world, with just the right amount of costume flair. He also has an ability to evoke fantasy which makes his collections lust worthy beyond belief!

Three things in your closet you cannot live without:

Jacqueline: My Mom's Vintage 80's black rhinestone belt, my Theory leather jacket, my Vince Camuto Mary Jane Pumps.

3 fun facts about you:

Jacqueline: 1. My heritage is predominantly French and Irish. 2. I work in fashion- I am a merchant (buyer) for Gap HQ. I love my job and am so grateful for it everyday. Living and breathing fashion with work and my blog is just the way I would want it to be! 3. My favorite cocktails is a Dirty Shirley!

What are you wearing right now?

Jacqueline: Well right this second I am wearing a Free People black party dress with black tights and my Vince Camuto heels-I just got back from a party at my favorite Vintage store. But everyday at work I'm layered up in jeans, my leather jacket and heels to stay comfy and functional while running around!

Do you have a favorite fashion era? What did you love about it?

Jacqueline: The 60s are definitely a favorite fashion era as well as political era I would have loved to live through. The freedom expressed through fashion in the 60s is unrivaled and the explosion of colors, patterns, textures and methods of doing and wearing things (hello, tie dye) are so amazingly awesome.

What 5 items do you always have in your purse?

Jacqueline: 1. Lipstick! I have probably at least 5 colors of lipstick in my purse at all times. 2. Hair Brush-I brush my hair multiple times a day at work (which my co-workers have gotten used to). 3. A notebook-I'm constantly writing lists of things to do and documenting inspiration. 4. gum. 5. Nail Polish.

If you could have one wish granted, what would it be?

Jacqueline: Oh man, I would definitely wish for World Peace--which would include ending Global hunger. If everyone could live in harmony and be happy and healthy then that would be the ultimate wish come true. I know it is sort of cliche, but honestly what else would you ask for if one wish could be granted?

Three things that are always in my fridge:

Jacqueline: Cream Cheese- I love this stuff so much and put it on everything (it's my weakness). Champagne-you never know when you are going to have an impromptu party or celebration. Orange Juice-I drink OJ every day to kick off my day and stay hydrated (and it comes in pretty handy too for a Mimosa)

People would be surprised to know that I...

Jacqueline: I donate a lot of my clothes to Good Will throughout the year. I absolutely recognize that participating in the latest fashion trends and blogging is a privilege, so if I can give back to the community in a small way like donating my clothes then that is something I will always do to give back.
