An Interview with Moorea of Moorea Seal blog
Hello everyone, I'm Moorea from Moorea-Seal.com. I am a huge fan of fashion, especially unique fashion finds on a budget, which is what inspired me to start my own jewelry business! I have a jewelry line which I primarily sell in my etsy shop online, but have stocked in countries around the world. And when I'm not designing jewelry, I'm designing one of a kind blog designs through Freckled Nest Design and doing freelance illustration primarily focusing in portraiture! I'm quite a busy lady.
How would you describe your personal style?
Moorea: I would say my personal style is a mixture between the modern tailored chic clothing of today and the flow and feminine feel of the 70s bohemian. I like pairing soft feminine pieces with something with a little more edge like leather leggings or a studded bracelet.
Who or what has been your greatest fashion influence?
Moorea: My grandmother always told me that you should present on the outside how you feel on the inside. She used fashion as both representation of her confidence and she used it as an opportunity to experiment, to be bold and have fun. She instilled a love of fashion in me.
What label(s)/store(s) do you favor?
Moorea: Madwell, Asos, Need Supply Co, Gretchen Jones, Jeffrey Campbell, Nicole Ritche, Tobi, The Row, Free People, 80's Purple, La Garconne,
What are you currently grooving to?
Moorea: "Mirrorball" by Elbow
In your opinion, every woman should own:
Moorea: Eye catching accessories. You can wear the most simple t-shirt and jeans and it suddenly becomes a one of a kind look by adding some gold sparkly pumps, a stack of mixed metal bracelets, some chandelier earrings and a killer leather clutch.
4 things you can't live without:
Moorea: Shoes shoes and more shoes, chapstick, my iphone, skinny pants, my work space (I might be a little bit of a work-a-holic), peanut butter and chocolate
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Moorea: Reality TV. I work from home all day everyday, so while I work on crafting my jewelry pieces or designing blogs, I usually have a random reality tv show playing in the background. I don't have to really watch it to keep up with whatever is going on and I just like the filler of sound while I work.
Do you have any comfort foods and what memories do you have associated with them?
Moorea: I am a sweets-a-holic. I love cookies, pie, candy... I also grew up in England so I love heavy British food. Bangers and Mash, Toad in a Hole, Custard, Cornish Pasties, Beans on Toast. Feels like home. And I love chicken pot pie and chicken salad sandwiches because they remind me of my grandma.
If you could have one wish granted, what would it be?
Moorea: That everyone I knew would never have to suffer from tragic deaths, would live long & fulfilling lives and would die of old ages perfectly content with the lives they lead.
People would be surprised to know that I...
Moorea: changed my name when I was 8! In England, Ashley was a boy's name so I was always embarrassed. Then when I moved to the U.S. it felt like every girl was named Ashley. When my parents were naming my youngest sister, I heard the middle name they picked for her & I fell in love with it. Moorea is me!
What's your latest obsession?
Moorea: Leather pants paired with everything. I have a very angular face so I wear softer tops to balance it out and I love wearing something edgy with my softer pieces. So right now, a grey tunic, skinny belt, flowing sweater, leather leggings, tall booties & a stack of studded bracelets is my uniform.
What is the worst job you've ever had?
Moorea: Cleaning a summer rental house. I hated it. I come from a really small town where there are no jobs, so my Dad connected me with a family friend who needed a house cleaner for their rental house one summer. It was so tacky and gross, jungle themed. And tourists can be really dirty. Yuck.
