An Interview with Courtney Ash of Dear Darling

I like to think of my life as a movie. That somehow, somewhere the many scenes of my days are unfolding on the big screen. Along with that incredible soundtrack, of course. Well sadly I realize that my life isn't a major motion picture. Millions of people aren't watching my glamourous (at times) and not so glamourous life (at others). But that's where Blogger comes into the *story*. Dear Darling is, I guess you could say my own movie. It's my way of sharing with you my life as a college undergrad and its crazy ups n' downs.

This interview was published on Wednesday, November 23, 2011.

How did you come up with your blog name?

Courtney Ash: I was actually designing a vintage inspired clothing/accessory line that was to be centered around the eras from WWII to the Korean War. The concept is based around the letters written to soldiers during this time. Ultimately, I'm still working on this line and therefore named my blog Dear Darling.

How would you describe your personal style?

Courtney Ash: This question has always been so hard for me to answer. I've even gone so far as to ask my friends to describe my style and all they ever come up with is "it's just you". I like to believe that my style is a little bit of everything but if I had to put a title on it...I don't know that I could.

How are you able to stay fashionable without spending a lot of $$? What are your tips and where do you shop?

Courtney Ash: I'm a pack rat, I still have things from freshman year in high school (that still fit that is). I was trained by an expert (my mother) at bargain shopping, so I NEVER buy anything full price. Okay, take that back..I try not to. My tip is when you walk into a store B line it for the clearance first.

What do you think is the hardest part about blogging?

Courtney Ash: Staying on top of posting and emails. Especially in college I tend to lose track of time and next thing I know it's been a week since I've posted anything for my readers or replies to their emails. So I would definitely have to say posting on a regular basis with my schedule is incredibly difficult.

What is the most rewarding part?

Courtney Ash: Well obviously there are perks to being a blogger for example being asked to do a review. But in complete honesty just knowing that people "read" my blog and care about what me (of all people) are doing and accomplishing in my life. I LOVE my readers!

In your opinion, every woman should own:

Courtney Ash: EVERY woman should own something covered in sequins. Anything, it seriously doesn't matter just as long as its covered in them from head to toe.

What are key pieces from your wardrobe that you find yourself wearing over and over?

Courtney Ash: I usually get stuck on a certain pair of jeans until something dreadful happens to them (like last weekend I was dancing and ripped my favorite pair...tear :/) And my faithful black heels that just look perfect with everything.

Do you keep your older clothes or do you like to keep your closet small and organized?

Courtney Ash: Well as you all know from prior, i'm a pack rat. So basically I keep all of my old clothes until, well...I can't anymore.

4 things you can't live without:

Courtney Ash: 1. My Family 2. A Brush 3.Lipgloss 4. ANY pair of heels

What bad habits drive you crazy?

Courtney Ash: I can't stand when i'm with someone and their on their phone. (boys in general)

What's your latest obsession?

Courtney Ash: Jordan Rux...enough said. ;)

What is the worst job you've ever had?

Courtney Ash: I worked at a sports bar and the owner couldn't stand me. Not kidding. One time my parents came in to eat and she walked up to them and stated "Courtney know NOTHING." Ummm rude. So yeah I basically hated that job but I needed the money for shopping in NYC. Girls gotta do what a girls gotta do.
