An Interview with Sydney of Golden Girl Of The West
My name is Sydney Ballesteros, the face behind the blog "Golden Girl of the West!" I am located in sunny Tucson, AZ and my blog is a mix of things from fashion to lifestyle. I started my blog a little over two years ago as a way to express and share the things I love and am fond of, as well as current projects I am working on, as a Stylist and Creative Director. Among having my hand involved in many different creative outlets as a freelancer, I am currently the Fashion Editor for Zocalo Magazine (Tucson's Urban Lifestyle Mag). One of my loves lies in vintage clothing and home decor. In most of my wardrobe, I try to incorporate an aesthetic of mixing vintage with new pieces and I also draw inspiration from many different eras in fashion. I like pretty things and I am a very girlie-girl at heart, and I have no shame when it comes to eating ice cream, but that's just a little bit of info about me, I hope you enjoy reading "Golden Girl of the West!"
How would you describe your personal style?
Sydney: Very girly & eclectic!I tend to be a bit of a chameleon.I definitely have certain looks, mixed eras and pretty things that I draw from & gravitate towards, but I never like to deprive myself of any one style. Incorporating vintage pieces is a must!I like to stay on my toes, create and just be inspired!
What is your nerdiest hobby?
Sydney: Reading books and magazines! My idea of a big date night, is a cozy evening with my hubby either reading at home or getting lost in a bookstore for hours (hot tea or coffee in hand). That's a hobby right?
Three things in your closet you cannot live without:
Sydney: A cardigan, pair of high wasted denims and my leather riding boots. All of these items are comfort pieces, so versatile and just fit right in with anything you style them with.
Biggest style splurge and/or deal:
Sydney: My Kate Spade purse! You can never go wrong with a good handbag investment!
Do you have a favorite fashion era? What did you love about it?
Sydney: It's so hard for me to narrow it down to just one.I love so many elements from so many different eras, and I pull inspiration from them all!I love the glamour of the 1920s&30s,the homespun feel of the 1940s,the polished chicness & femininity of the 1950s&60s and the bohemian spirit of the 1970s.
What types of items do you like to save $ on and what do you splurge on?
Sydney: I mainly like to save money on anything I can get my hands on, There is nothing like finding an amazing piece for a bargain, on a treasure hunt! The things I don't mind splurging on are; shoes, a good handbag and a good tailor!
In your opinion, every woman should own:
Sydney: A cashmere cardigan, a pair of classic flats, vintage style sunglasses, scarves, a trench coat and a classic black or brown solid leather purse. Oh! I almost forgot, every woman should own a set of pearls too! Gosh, I could go on and on about this.....
One trend you would like to never see again is:
Sydney: Fashion is such a resurfacing evolution, that it is hard to say. At times,I think I would never like to see some of the trends that took place in the late 80s & early 90s again, but then a designer with an amazing eye, will take an attractive element from it and come up with a genius look or idea!
Favorite beauty product of all time? Why?
Sydney: Maybeline Great Lash Mascara! If nothing else all you need to run put of the house is a little blush, lipstick and MASCARA! It's cheap and it never dis-appoints me!
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Sydney: Sweets! Oh my gosh, I have a sweet tooth like nobodies business! Ice Cream get me every time, preferably Ben & Jerry's chunky monkey-guilty!
Your most worn shoes:
Sydney: A pair of vintage 1960s purple Salvatore Ferragamo loafers, that I found thrifting for $10.00! They always add a nice pop of color to my wardrobe and the style goes with almost everything!
Your most worn piece of jewelry:
Sydney: Honestly, I rotate my jewelry and accessories so often, that it's hard to get attached to one piece, but if I had to pick something that I wear most often, it would be my vintage wedding ring, my watch, or my Grandmothers pearls.
On the first day of hot weather, you'll find me:
Sydney: Wearing my favorite pretty, airy sundress and a pair of wedges or espadrilles, they never go out of style!
