An Interview with Dea of The Dea Diaries

My name is Dea and I started the dea diaries as a new adventure in documenting my outfits and in attempts to inspire shopping more from my closet. Blogging has provided me with creative ways to develop my individual style while establishing an outlet to uncover my thoughts and continue to grow. Fashion and personal style always keep me flipping through magazines and hoping that one day I'll attend a fashion show in NYC. Here's to dreams!!

This interview was published on Friday, September 09, 2011.

How would you describe your personal style?

Dea: My personal style is one that is ever evolving and heavily influenced by my mood. I'm heavily drawn to the classic silhuettes that JCrew delivers, Anthropologie always delivers whimsy and fills up the majority of my closet, and there are moments when the hipster look is most appropriate!

What is your nerdiest hobby?

Dea: My nerdiest hobby would have to be.......I don't have one! So ridiculous I know, but I thought about this for a while and couldn't come up with anything :)

Where are you from and what are your top three favorite places to shop in your city?

Dea: I'm originally from Albania but at a young age my family moved to Gainesville, Florida (Go Gators). I recently moved to Charlottesville, VA and would say that I frequently drop by Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters, and the Farmer's Market. A true regular at all three!

3 fun facts about you:

Dea: 1. One summer I lived in Finland for two months and loved it so much I was making plans to go back and pursue a doctorate degree 2. I'm a certified mediator - I attended District Court and resolved conflict 3. I can't dive - didn't start learning to swim until I was 10, and never took proper lessons

What are you currently grooving to?

Dea: I listen to Pandora daily and have created a Worldbeat station which covers everyone: Tito Puente, Thievery Corporation, Chantal Chamberland, Al Green and Dirty Laundry. When I go running I make sure Beyonce, Michael Jackson and Kanye are locked down on the playlist. They keep me moving and grooving

What inspires you?

Dea: Perseverance. I've come across few individuals that have shown great determination and hard work to reach their potential. Inspiration comes in many forms, but what really tugs at me is someone who rolls up their sleeves, tucks their head down, and works one step at a time to reach their goal.

Favorite item of clothing in your closet:

Dea: Over the last few months I've worked to make everything in my closet a favorite, so I cannot choose just one item! Favorite staples would be JCrew cardigans, Anthro shift dresses, and most recently, pleated skirts!

In your opinion, every woman should own:

Dea: A special dress that they always feel beautiful in. Something that a woman can wear to the grocery store as well as out on a date. I would also add a classic pair of flats in a neutral color that can interchangeably be worn with slacks, skirts, and dresses. JCrew always delivers in this department.

What 5 items do you always have in your purse?

Dea: Lipgloss, mirror, gum, iphone, wallet!

4 things you can't live without:

Dea: Love, compassion, bread, and music!

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Dea: Netflix Instant. It's such a troublemaker because it delivers endless episodes of new and favorite shows so I have no excuse to leave the couch!

What words do you live by?

Dea: Be the change you want to see in the world.

Three things that are always in my fridge:

Dea: Cheese, hummus, and grapes.
