An Interview with Lydia of Chic On The Cheap
With lofty dreams of looking high street in a small suburban town on a small budget, I always try to be a great bargain hunter. But sometimes I get caught up in the thrill of the shop and spend a bit more than I should! Being able to find affordable fashion is so important, and knowing how to balance out those occasional splurges with some great second hand purchases is a good way to stay Chic on the Cheap.
What do you do when you're not blogging? What is your job?
Lydia: I work in an office, but there is a pretty loose dress code, so I can have a lot of fun with my work outfits.
What is your fantasy splurge?
Lydia: Right now I'm dreaming about an ONA camera bag - you would not believe how hard it is to find a camera bag that is actually stylish enough to carry as a purse. They have a brown leather satchel for $300 that is just perfect.
3 fun facts about you:
Lydia: In 2010 I was one of the lucky people who got stuck in Europe when the Icelandic volcano erupted. (The extra week I spent in Italy was the best week ever.) I really like photography, I'm always trying to take better outfit photos, and I take all of my photos myself with a tripod and remote.
How are you able to stay fashionable without spending a lot of $$? What are your tips and where do you shop?
Lydia: I shop in sale racks, in TJMaxx, on ebay, in thrift stores, in other bloggers closets... I also have a bad habit of 'stalking' items online, waiting for them to go on sale.
What types of items do you like to save $ on and what do you splurge on?
Lydia: I'm more likely to splurge on a bag or shoes than anything else. I know I'll get the most use out of them and a new pair of shoes can freshen up an old look. I hate spending a lot of money on underwear. No way am I spending $20 at Victorias Secret when I can get something identical at TJMaxx for $2
In your opinion, every woman should own:
Lydia: A dress that makes her feel beautiful, and isn't black. Everyone wears black; it's better to stand out from the crowd.
What 5 items do you always have in your purse?
Lydia: Aside from my keys and my wallet, a measuring tape, emergency chocolate, a flashlight that looks like pig, lip gloss, and sunglasses.
4 things you can't live without:
Lydia: My iPhone, really strong coffee, dark chocolate, and the internet. Because lets face it, what the heck do you do with your computer these days if the internet is down?
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Lydia: Friday nights at home watching reruns of Burn Notice. (Why aren't I out socializing?)
On the first day of hot weather, you'll find me:
Lydia: Walking to the beach to take outfit photos.
When I want to look cute, I put on...
Lydia: I want to look cute everyday, so hopefully anything in my closet.
