An Interview with Laura of The World Looks Red
Hi! My name is, I’m 22 years old and I live in Amsterdam. I run a styleblog called The World Looks Red, where I post about my love for vintage-inspired fashion, music, movies, my photography and my personal life.
What do you do when you're not blogging? What is your job?
Laura: I'm a translator: I write subtitles for television in English, Dutch and Swedish. It's a great job, I work from home so it's perfect to combine with blogging.
How did you come up with your blog name?
Laura: I stole it from a Sonic Youth song. I was gonna start a blog but I didn't know what to name it, so I went on iTunes and put my playlist on shuffle. The World Looks Red was the first song that came up, and I thought it was an ok title.
What is your nerdiest hobby?
Laura: I'm a huge Youtube nerd. I can sit for hours and watch loads of interviews, cat videos, documentaries and then forward the best ones to my friends. Or call them and go: "Check out this kitty, it goes omnomnom when it eats! AND IT'S SO FLUFFY!". It's getting a bit embarrassing.
3 fun facts about you:
Laura: # Every blog-reader I meet just goes: I thought you were tall! # I'm an occasional carnivore. I mostly eat vegan but I choose not to restrict myself. I think a lot of people could help by doing this, cause going completely vegan or veggie is a big step for most people. # I love Jim Henson films.
What are you currently grooving to?
Laura: The new Bon Iver album is absolutely brilliant. I'm also playing a lot of The Cure cause I'm in the middle of home renovations and painting and cleaning is a lot more fun when singing along to The Cure.
Favorite item of clothing in your closet:
Laura: I found a really pretty vintage light blue dress recently. It's super simple but I love the shape and the color.
In your opinion, every woman should own:
Laura: clothes that make them feel beautiful.
What 5 items do you always have in your purse?
Laura: Wallet, keys, lipbalm, mascara and one of those tiny hairbrush/mirror combo's.
Favorite beauty product of all time? Why?
Laura: Water. I don't use many beauty products cause I'm so bad at building up a routine of cleansing and moisturizing and all that, but I really notice my skin looks great when I drink a lot of water. If I have to name a product I'd say vitamin E oil. That stuff is good for everything.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Laura: Unhealthy food. All unhealthy things are my favorites. Bread, pizza, anything deep-fried, mayonnaise... Everyone keeps warning me that at some point my metabolism WILL slow down and I'll get really really fat if I keep eating like this. Might as well enjoy it while I still can, then.
When I want to look sexy, I put on...
Laura: I just try to look pretty and I want to feel confident and comfortable in what I wear. I think that makes a person sexy. I think the right boys are more attracted to a fun, goofball girl who's wearing something cute, than the 'hot girl' in high heels who's trying so hard to be seductive.
When I want to look cute, I put on...
Laura: a pretty dress, pink blush and a couple of layers of mascara.
