An Interview with Marissa of The Well-Appointed Catwalk
Marissa is a Boston-based freelance writer and communications specialist with a passion for design. Since she can barely draw a straight line, she explores her love for design in all its forms - fashion, architecture, industrial and interior - at TheWellAppointedCatwalk.com.
Who or what has been your greatest fashion influence?
Marissa: My mom. She worked in the fashion industry before I was born, and she is the most stylish woman I know. She knows how to dress for her shape, and she has never been a slave to labels or trends.
Where are you from and what are your top three favorite places to shop in your city?
Marissa: I'm from Boston, and we have some really great local boutiques. Most of my favorites are on Newbury Street, including Dress for brands like Cynthia Vincent and 3.1 Phillip Lim, Pinkyotto for its own line of print dresses and tops, and The Closet for high-end consignment.
3 fun facts about you:
Marissa: 1. I'm an only child, but I come from a family full of twins. 2. I adore dogs, especially ones with droopy faces. (Ok, it's actually a slight obsession) 3. I spent a semester of college in New Zealand - the best 6 months of my life!
What inspires you?
Marissa: I'm inspired by all forms of design, but when it comes to putting an outfit together, I always take inspiration from style bloggers and girls I see on the street.
Biggest style splurge and/or deal:
Marissa: My biggest splurge just happened this week. It's a beautiful Marc Jacobs saddle bag that I'll wear forever. I don't feel too guilty for splurging, though, because it was also one of my best style deals - 50% off.
In your opinion, every woman should own:
Marissa: Something that no one else has! And high heels you can walk in.
A woman's most beautiful feature is her:
Marissa: Smile
4 things you can't live without:
Marissa: 1. Good friends and family 2. Sweets 3. Perfect fitting jeans 4. Lip balm
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Marissa: Bad television. I have no fewer than four editions of the Real Housewives, plus 16 & Pregnant and Teen Mom, on my DVR.
On the first day of hot weather, you'll find me:
Marissa: at the beach!
Three things that are always in my fridge:
Marissa: Greek yogurt, Cabot cheddar and fruit (always blueberries in the summer).
