An Interview with Annie of Annie Pancake And The Time Machine!

Hi! I'm Annie from Annie Pancake and the Time Machine. I'm a teenage blogger with a love Vintage, Glamour and always looking your best! I get my inspiration from old movies, pictures... and probably your grandma. ;) I love to review things for my readers and parade around in my beloved clothes in front of the camera!

This interview was published on Saturday, July 30, 2011.

How would you describe your personal style?

Annie: Very vintage inspired. I love the 30s 40s and 50s althought I mostly stick to 40s/50s. I wear a lot of vintage but I also like to wear Reproduction and highstreet clothes. I usually look for high or 'natural' waists and poofy sleeves.. oh and a decent length in the skirt!

Who or what has been your greatest fashion influence?

Annie: I think 'The Golden Era' certainly has. I am utterly in love with Dita von Teese and all her costumes and outfits. I love that she makes taking your clothes off so dignified. She is sexier all covered up than most people with their bums out and I'd love to be half way as classy as her!

3 fun facts about you:

Annie: I can sing and play guitar; I'm useless at it, but I have a huge, inexplicable desire to knit - Socks and jumpers and scarves and all and I've suddenly become interested in fashioning hair flowers from bits of fabric.

What are you currently grooving to?

Annie: Well this morning I was screaming 'The Andrews Sisters' at the top of my lungs - I love old swing music - but I also love Alkaline Trio which is sort of a strange contrast. I've also been a bit in love with White Lies and have re-discovered Lazlo Bane :)

How are you able to stay fashionable without spending a lot of $$? What are your tips and where do you shop?

Annie: Charity Shops! For some reason, all the good vintage inspired stuff ends up there! I've also invested in some 'staple' clothes (e.g blouses and skirts) which go with lots of stuff so they're a saving in the long run. I like shopping at www.heydayonline.co.uk, www.tarastarlet.com and Etsy.

What types of items do you like to save $ on and what do you splurge on?

Annie: I'd splurge on a good piece of Repro or a great suit from Ebay or Etsy. Suits are oh-so-elegant and give you a skirt and a jacket to mix-and-match. I splurged on my prom dress - a 1950s Prom Gown! I'd save on cute vintage inspired highstreet blouse and stripy tops that you can pair with everything!

In your opinion, every woman should own:

Annie: A really well-fitting shift dress (so versatile!) A pair of T-Bar Shoes and a brilliant Bikini or Swimsuit that makes you feel amazing. (Oh, and of course, a little piece of vintage!)

One trend you would like to never see again is:

Annie: Ugg Boots! They are the bane of my existence and bad for your posture and feet!

4 things you can't live without:

Annie: My favourite pair of T-bar low heels, some great music to jam to (from Benny Goodman to the Red Hot Chili Peppers!), High waisted Trousers (Heyday and Freddie's of Pinewood are my Mecca!) and good old slick of Red Lippy!

Favorite beauty product of all time? Why?

Annie: Besame Red Lipstick. I wear red lipstick on a virtually daily basis and my Besame lipstick is in a tiny fits-in-your-purse size tube, has beautiful packaging, is applied easily and the colour payoff is fantastic.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Annie: Chocolate Spread... Haha! No, probably 40s/50s day dresses. I have loads of them and not enough of everything else. Oh, and Stripes! I have an obscene amount of stripy clothes.

Do you have any comfort foods and what memories do you have associated with them?

Annie: Comfort food usually comes to me in the form of about 5 bowls of cereal. Any cereal, as long as it's carb-y and vaguely sugard-coated. Mainly memories of being a very fussy eater as a child and having to fill up on Cereal!

Three things that are always in my fridge:

Annie: Orange Juice! I could drink Gallons; Milk for all those bowls of cereal ;) and it's not always in there but I wish it was - home made potato salad. Om om, major nom!
