An Interview with Veronika of Tick Tock Vintage
Hi there! I'm Veronika from Tick Tock Vintage. My blog focuses on personal style, DIY projects, vintage finds, and Philadelphia.
Who or what has been your greatest fashion influence?
Veronika: Easily vintage fashions from the 50's and early 60's. I've been collecting and selling vintage for about 10 years now, and most of my inspiration comes from pictures or advertisements. I love the clothing, hair, makeup...everything!
What would be the one fashion tip you would give to a friend?
Veronika: Don't concern yourself with what's trendy; wear what makes you feel fashionable, comfortable, and happy with your appearance.
3 fun facts about you:
Veronika: I'm a second grade teacher, I have Czech citizenship, and I absolutely cannot stand pickles and olives. Even the smell of them makes me gag.
Biggest style splurge and/or deal:
Veronika: Hmm. My biggest splurge has been my wedding dress, and the best deal I've ever gotten was $60 Chloe wedges that retail for $600 on eBay. I'm an eBay shoe addict!
In your opinion, every woman should own:
Veronika: comfortable brown leather sandals, well-fitting jeans, and a roomy, well-made bag.
One trend you would like to never see again is:
Veronika: Oh man, there are so many that it's really hard to choose. Velour tracksuits stick out first in my mind, especially those that have anything written on the butt. To me, they're pajamas, and I can't imagine why you'd ever wear sleepwear outside of your house. I just don't get it
What are key pieces from your wardrobe that you find yourself wearing over and over?
Veronika: I don't show it much on my blog, but I wear an American Apparel gray v-neck constantly; it's incredibly comfortable, flattering, and can easily be dressed up or down. I wear it with high-waisted vintage skirts and wedges, or with jean cutoffs and vintage cowboy boots.
4 things you can't live without:
Veronika: My pups (we have three - let's just say that they count as one entity!), my camera, coffee, and my husband - not necessarily in that order.
Your most worn piece of jewelry:
Veronika: I wear my engagement ring and wedding ring every day, as well as a pair of earrings that my husband gave me several years ago for Christmas. I literally never take them off, I'm so scared that I'll lose them!
If you had a time machine that could take you back in time, what year would you go to and why?
Veronika: I think I'd like to visit the mid-70's to see my mom as a teenager. She didn't save much from her childhood and I would love to see what she was like!
Three things that are always in my fridge:
Veronika: Beer (I drink Flemish sours in the winter and wheat beers in the summer), half and half (for the copious amounts of coffee that I drink), and strawberries.
Why do you love vintage?
Veronika: So many reasons! It's a great way to live an environmentally friendly lifestyle, the clothing is better quality, I'm guaranteed that I'm the only one wearing that particular garment - and I love knowing that there's some sort of history behind what I'm wearing. I like picturing who wore it before!
