An Interview with Cher of a.fashion.deliberation
I'm really just a tomboy with a life-long love for fashion. I'm also a professional and extremely petite, both of which create its own fashion challenges with respect to fit and creativity. I started my blog mostly out of boredom, but also because I couldn't find blogs that reflected an everyday style similar to my own or talked about issues with fit on a very petite frame. Not long after my first post, I found myself in a community that I never knew existed. Now I'm inspired by everyone I connect with through blogging and I hope others are inspired as well! Come visit me at a.fashion.deliberation.
What do you do when you're not blogging? What is your job?
Cher: I spend a lot of time reading. Not just books, but things on the internet and magazines. I'm constantly looking for inspiration in all aspects of my life. My day job? A tax attorney. Yes, I know that doesn't sound like a whole lot of fun, but it's certainly intellectually rewarding.
How would you describe your personal style?
Cher: Classic corporate with a modern twist, somewhat preppy, and a little bit of edge. I'm very much a tomboy at heart, and my style is very minimalist. I don't really like to layer that much, and very rarely will you see me in anything extremely girly.
3 fun facts about you:
Cher: I hate feet. I'm obsessed with the flat iron, even though my hair is stick straight (even my stylist said I have the straightest hair of anyone he knows). I love cheese.
What is your favorite city to shop in?
Cher: I don't really have one. I've never been to NYC *gasp*, so maybe one day I can say that it will be NYC. I split my time between Canada and the US, and each country has different things to offer and I equally enjoy shopping in both.
Biggest style splurge and/or deal:
Cher: My D&G suede booties that I found at TJ Maxx on clearance, down from $700 to $189!
How are you able to stay fashionable without spending a lot of $$? What are your tips and where do you shop?
Cher: Mixing it up and accessorize! Tip? Quality and fit over quantity. There is nothing I hate more than having to toss items because they haven't held up well over time. Being very petite, finding clothes that fit can be a challenge. But my go-to stores are Aritzia, Jacob, Theory, and Ann Taylor.
What types of items do you like to save $ on and what do you splurge on?
Cher: I splurge on my work wardrobe because they are pieces that need to last a long time and look good. It's hard to fake a good suit and as an attorney, I need to look the part. I like to save money on jeans. I love high-end denim, but I always make sure to get them at a deal.
In your opinion, every woman should own:
Cher: A great fitting pair of jeans.
One trend you would like to never see again is:
Cher: Leggings under dresses. WHY?! I actually don't like leggings in general unless you're at the gym, though, I admit, I've been guilty of wearing them casually under a long top. But one thing I cannot stand is when the butt is not covered. Leggings are *not* pants!
4 things you can't live without:
Cher: Internet, LOL. Alima Mineral Foundation. Tweezers. My Macbook.
Favorite beauty product of all time? Why?
Cher: M2 (formerly known as MaMa Lotion). I've been using it for over five years and it always leaves my skin looking great and does a great job of keeping my acne under control. Highly recommended.
On the first day of hot weather, you'll find me:
Cher: People-watching on a patio drinking a Starbucks Frappuccino.
