An Interview with Cori of la vie petite
Bonjour! I’m Cori from La Vie Petite where I blog about trying to dress classy while still taking my kids to the park every day, and cutting the crust off their peanut butter sandwiches. I think fashion can be functional as well, and there’s nothing better than feeling at home in your clothes. At not quite 4’11” I’m about half a foot shorter than the “normal” petite person. This can make life interesting, especially when it comes to finding clothes. I love sharing my adventures in searching for stuff that fits, sewing my own clothes, and boldly going where no mother will go: white pants. Come by and stay awhile. à bientôt!
What do you do when you're not blogging? What is your job?
Cori: When I am not blogging I'm super busy being a mom to my 3 little munchkins, and a wife to my awesome husband. I'm lucky to be a SAHM and it's pretty much the best job ever. I also go to school part-time, and love decorating my house, reading great books, and sewing my own clothes.
Biggest style splurge and/or deal:
Cori: I love a good deal. Honestly, every single time I've paid full price for anything I've totally regretted it later. I find great deals at The Loft, thrift stores rock, and I love to sew my own clothes. My Easter dress cost me about 8$ to make. The local fabric wholesale store is my best friend.
Do you have a favorite fashion era? What did you love about it?
Cori: I love the late 30's early 40's. The silhouettes were so flattering and classically beautiful. I love the hairstyles, the shoes, everything! Plus, I honestly believe Rosie the Riveter pioneered the trouser jean. I also adore anything Audry Hepburn and Coco Chanel. Classic style makes me swoon.
What types of items do you like to save $ on and what do you splurge on?
Cori: I like to save money on all of it, but I especially like to save money on accessories, scarfs, shoes etc; all the fun and funky pieces that add personality to your wardrobe but are more trendy. I will splurge more on jeans and pants, because a poorly fitted pair of pants just kills an outfit.
In your opinion, every woman should own:
Cori: Every woman should own a great pair of trouser jeans, cardigans in at least a few colors, a fabulous statement necklace, white linen pants, and a really great dress.
One trend you would like to never see again is:
Cori: The whole grunge phase basically. Sorry Kurt Cobain. And scrunchies. Especially when worn around the wrist instead of in the hair, but actually just scrunchies in general. They should all be burnt. Oh, and the frizzy mullet, well all mullets really.
4 favorite fashion accessories:
Cori: Only four?! Okay, Statement jewelry (especially necklaces. swoon.) A great over-sized brooch, ballet flats, and scarves. Out of my own closet: anyone of my statement necklaces, my large plum brooch, my grey riding boots, and my coral scarf, no the polka dot one. Ah, I can't decide!
What are key pieces from your wardrobe that you find yourself wearing over and over?
Cori: My trouser jeans, my mustard skinny belt, anything with stripes, my cardigans, and my plum ballet flats.
4 things you can't live without:
Cori: I can't live without my family, my faith, chapstick (I have chronically chapped lips--it is always on hand),and hair serum. You don't want to see the frizz that is my hair without it.
Your most worn perfume/lotion:
Cori: I lovey, love my Coco Mademoiselle, by Chanel perfume. It smells like a dream, lasts all day, and was gift from my husband, so it makes me happy every time I put it on. And Bath and Body Works' Secret Wonderland body cream is out of this world. It smells delish and makes my skin feel like silk.
Your most worn piece of jewelry:
Cori: Is probably my yellow ring from Target. I seem to throw it on with everything, and it's a great butter yellow so it's basically a neutral. I also have a large plum brooch from the Loft that's practically a celebrity among my friends and blog readers. It is quite fabulous.
Do you have any phobias?
Cori: I hate ants! I hate the way they get on everything and you're all itchy, ug! I'm also terrified of sharks, and the first time I went scuba diving in the ocean, after months of being reassured by Mr. Husband that I wouldn't see one, there was a huge shark! Talk about facing your fears. Yikes.
