An Interview with Sally of Already Pretty
Sally McGraw is a Minneapolis-based blogger, freelance writer, and communications professional who holds a degree in creative writing from Binghamton University.
In addition to writing her daily style and body image blog Already Pretty, she has blogged for Glamour and been published in US Airways’ in-flight magazine. She has also guest posted everywhere from The Coveted and You Look Fab to Work it, Mom!, Gertie’s New Blog for Better Sewing, and Academichic.
She is an ongoing contributor to Channel 12′s Money Savers segment, has been interviewed on the popular talk radio program the Lori and Julia Show, and has given guest lectures at the Univ. of Minnesota.
What do you do when you're not blogging? What is your job?
Sally: I work at the University of Minnesota Foundation as a communications coordinator. I do photo research, photo archiving, HTML coding, and lots of miscellaneous marketing and communications-related tasks!
How would you describe your personal style?
Sally: Arty eclectic with a broad streak of retro influence
Who or what has been your greatest fashion influence?
Sally: My friend Elizabeth. We met while both living in San Francisco, and she was, hands down, the most stylish friend I'd ever had. She taught me to wear and love skirts, mind figure flattery, and embrace personal style as an expression of my own creativity. Thanks, E!
What would be the one fashion tip you would give to a friend?
Sally: Wear what makes you feel fabulous about yourself. Period.
What is your fantasy splurge?
Sally: Just one? I suppose it'd be a pair of Marni shoes. I adore Marni. Also in the running: Fiorentini & Baker boots, a McQueen skull scarf, and a Saddleback Leather satchel.
Three things in your closet you cannot live without:
Sally: Fashion tape, tall boots, and layering tees.
What are you currently grooving to?
Sally: "Around the Bend" by The Asteroids Galaxy Tour. Just watched "The September Issue" and that song has been stuck in my head ever since!
What is your favorite dessert?
Sally: I'm glucose intolerant, so I struggle with desserts. But when I indulge, I'd probably go for pumpkin spice cake with cream cheese frosting. YUM.
Favorite item of clothing in your closet:
Sally: A gorgeous, intricately detailed cardigan I bought while traveling in Tasmania. It's my prized possession!
How are you able to stay fashionable without spending a lot of $$? What are your tips and where do you shop?
Sally: Thrift stores and eBay. EVERY trend highlighted in the fashion mags can be easily and cheaply thrifted, and many high-priced items can be nabbed a season or two later on eBay.
