An Interview with Yola of YolaThorp.com

Hi I'm Yola from YolaThorp.com. On a day-to-day basis I share my with my readers latest finds in fashion trends, inspirational interiors, beauty must-haves, and anything else that comes my way. When I'm not blogging I love to travel and explore, whether that means new cultures or neighborhoods, I am always in search of the next great piece.

This interview was published on Friday, February 03, 2012.
Smashion: What do you do when you're not blogging? What is your job?
Yola: I am a kitchen and bath designer, working closely with my clients using current trends to create new environments in their homes.
Smashion: How would you describe your personal style?
Yola: Always evolving.. now I would say I am leaning more towards effortlessly chic pieces, but I certainly love little interesting details in my outfits.
Smashion: What label(s)/store(s) do you favor?
Yola: I am in love with the prints and patterns of Dries Van Noten and Proenza Schouler, and absolutely adore the timeless factor in YSL. While in California last year I discovered Juan Carlos Obando and have been mesmerized by his work ever since.
Smashion: What are the most prominent colors in your wardrobe?
Yola: Blacks and sequins (I know sequin is not a color but I have been living in it this season)
    Smashion: What inspires you?
Yola: Anything from art, to fashion, to architecture. Architecture is inspiring because it can be beautiful for hundreds for years, fashion is alive and is constantly changing.
Smashion: 4 things you can't live without:
Yola: My camera, the beach, foundation, it's like photoshop for real life, and a good book, my two favorites are "Night" by Elie Wiesel and "Rich Dad Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki.
Smashion: Do you have any comfort foods and what memories do you have associated with them?
Yola: Love mom's lasagna, nothing like it in the world. I remember growing up my brother and I would always help bring her the ingredients.
Smashion: What bad habits drive you crazy?
Yola: Being interrupted in the middle of a sentence.
Smashion: What was the last good movie you saw?
    Yola: Iron Lady
Smashion: People would be surprised to know that I...
Yola: plan on going to Africa to help the children in the next few years.
Smashion: On my days off, you'll find me...
Yola: brunching and shopping in the city or spending my weekends in the Vineyard browsing through the amazing galleries. I love art and have been collecting it for quite some time. My father got me into bringing a piece back from every trip I go on.
Smashion: What's the oldest thing you're wearing today? Is there a story behind it?
Yola: A red stripped shirt handed down by aunt. When I was 5 or 6 I used to put on her clothes on and pretend that her living room was a runway and I would start walking, outfit after outfit. To my surprise she had hung on to the shirt and gave it as a gift to me three years ago during my trip to Italy.
