On my way out yesterday, I saw a woman in the elevator wearing this gorgeous blouse. I couldn’t help myself and complimented her on her beautiful blouse. She told me to mind my own business. Do you ask strangers about their bags/ clothes if you like them?

Wow that lady was rude. If I really love something another person is wearing and can't hold back my excitement, then I'd compliment them and ask them where they purchased it. I once chased after a girl in a grocery store just to find out where she bought her belt. haha. That was a bit creepy of me, though.

Some people really find it weird when others comment on their clothes. But I wouldn’t have minded… after all, it was a compliment that you gave, not an insult. :) I compliment my friends and ask them where they buy their clothes, but I haven’t asked a stranger yet.

I kinda got scared of complimenting strangers after what happened. I still see the cranky lady in my building and she still looks at me like I’m some weirdo. Hehe! But if I like something I see, I just might ask where they got it… hope it doesn’t happen again!

that was rude of that lady. maybe she thought you were being sarcastic.
I have a similar story. one time I was working and a lady came in and she was wearing a coach hat and scarf and I said "I really like your matching hat and scarf" and she says "it's COACH have you ever heard of COACH?" as if it was some crazy expensive designer that I would have NEVER heard of haha. I told her that I actually have a few coach bags, a coach wristlet, and all of my belts are from coach. she seemed kind of offended.
people are so snobby.
anyway, I like complimenting people on things and I'm always really glad when a stranger compliments me on something because I feel like the compliment is really genuine. if they're a stranger, they don't have to worry what I think of them so if someone comes up to me and says "hey I like your shirt" it's different than a friend or coworker who might say it just to get on my good side.

I compliment women all the time when I'm out at night with my girls at a nice restaurant or nightclub and they've always been well-received. Although, it's not surprising that girls in nightclubs love compliments since we always take so long to get ready that someone better compliment our outfit! (lol)

I like complementing other women... If they are wearing something really nice I don't see why I shouldn't let them know about it. It's nice that I make them feel good.

that's true, haha! we do spend a lot o time trying to look presentable. i wonder why some women don't like being complimented openly? i still get chills when i remember that woman from the elevator. sucks to be her... i feel warm when someone compliments me!

Just yesterday, I was complimented by a stranger for my handbag. It felt great! I couldn’t help but smile and feel good. I understand why it’s so hard to figure out why some women don’t like compliments…

I agree. This girl was wearing the PRETTIEST floral dress I've ever seen and I couldn't help but tell her that I liked it. If a random person tells me they like my style, it always brightens my day. It's just something nice we can all do for one another to make everyone feel good!

maybe being unable to appreciate a compliment is a sign of insecurity? ^_^ maybe the woman thought you were kidding because she herself didn't believe the compliment. poor woman, of course... but at least you gave her a compliment to think about...

I love receiving compliments from strangers and friends as well as complimenting others too. I am confident to congratulate and not hate on someone who is dressed in a fabulous outfit or even just sporting a really nice bag, jewelry or shoes. Women have so many unique and amazing styles and we love to be the spokes model for our own wardrobes. I think that we should all feel great about the positive encounters we have had with strangers who are women pertaining to fashion because it is something that will always keep us bonded. Fashion is universal and we will always either influence or be influenced by others and their displays of coordinating ensembles creatively!! :)

If I spot someone who wears something really nice, I'd definitely compliment them given the chance. Maybe a smile, and something like "I love your *insert clothing item here*". I think it's utterly rare for someone not to like a compliment, especially if you know you've spent quite some time on that particular outfit. I'm no fashionista, but when I go out and I know I look good and someone says so, I'd smile and say "Thank you!" It's easier than frowing :p

Its look to be good when we give complimant to any body .But every person has his own attitude of thinking and doing . So according to me I will give coplimant to the lady if I like her purse

I do compliment strangers on their clothes but I do it very rarely. I'm a bit shy and I feel like I have to time my compliment exactly if I don't want it to come out creepy or stalker-ish! I'm more generous with compliments on Facebook or online. It's easier when you don't have to deal with a stranger face to face. :P
