Are brown shoes really not as versatile? My boyfriend once told me that brown shoes are not a good investment because it’s hard to pair them with anything other than brown. Is it okay to wear brown shoes with a black skirt?

It's not that brown shoes aren't versatile. It depends on the outfit as a whole. You can wear it with a black skirt as long as you also pair it with the right colored tops. There's a lot of colors that go well with brown.

Love that outfit janejinx!

I agree with what one commenter here said - you can't go wrong with putting neutrals together. Let's throw that "never wear black with brown" rule out the window and just go with what looks right.

I like pairing black with tan browns. Black with taupe also looks nice:

I’ve always been pairing brown with black for the longest time! That’s because I love brown in particular. It’s a neutral color but it’s not as plain as black. It also goes well with my complexion. I never had a problem with black and brown together. :)

I like that look, very now… I happen to have similar shorts and suddenly I wanna copy that look. I also have brown shoes but I don’t have brown gladiator shoes. Oh I wanna go shopping again…
